Amir Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at of Nigeria Urges Nigerians to Pray for the Nation and Trust in Allah

The Amir sahib, Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at of Nigeria, Alh. Barrister Alatoye Folorunso Azeez sahib, has called on Nigerians to fervently pray for the nation and place their trust in Allah the Almighty during a courtesy visit to His Royal Highness, Alhaji Dr. Abubakar Ahmed Yakubu II, Ejeh of Ankpa; Chairman Ankpa Traditional Council/vice Chairman Igala Area Traditional Council, Coordinator North Central Traditional Rulers. The visit took place at the royal father’s residence in Abuja, where the Amir sahib led a delegation comprising key members of the Jama’at. During the visit, the Amir sahib extended a formal invitation to His Royal Highness to attend the 70th Jalsa Salana (Annual Convention) of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at, scheduled to hold in Ilaro, Ogun State. He expressed appreciation for the royal father’s steadfastness and commitment to upholding the true principles of Islam as espoused by the Jama’at. In his remarks, Amir sahib emphasized the importance of gratitude to Allah, unity, peace, and collective prayers for the progress of the nation. He urged Nigerians to remain hopeful and rely on Allah’s guidance during challenging times. In response, His Royal Highness graciously accepted the invitation to the Jalsa Salana and extended a reciprocal invitation to the Amir to visit the Ankpa Kingdom. The Amir expressed his also happily accepted the invitation, further strengthening ties between the Jama’at and the traditional institution. His Royal Highness expressed his wishes that Nigerians pray for leaders to succeed rather than cursing the leaders which has ripple effects on all. In a landmark event, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at of Nigeria proudly commissioned the Masroor International Technical College in Ilaro, Ogun State, a milestone celebrated as a visionary step towards youth empowerment and economic self-reliance. The inauguration was graced by His Excellency, the Governor of Ogun State, Prince (Dr.) Dapo Abiodun, who was ably represented by Mrs. Oloko Oluwatosin Moriamo, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology. The distinguished Amir of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at of Nigeria, Alhaji Alatoye Folorunso Abdul Azeez sahib, presided over the ceremony, with notable dignitaries within and beyond the Jama’at. Among the distinguished guests were Maulana Rana Akram, acting Missionary in Charge; Alhaji Mufadil Bankole, Naib Amir Finance and Administration, who also serves as the Head of the International Association of Ahmadi Architects and Engineers (IAAAE) in Nigeria; Arc. Akram Ahmedi, European Head of IAAAE; and Engr. Umar Ahmad sahib, IAAAE Head for Africa. Royal Fathers, including His Royal Majesty Oba Buhari Ololade Makinde, the Oniwoye of Iwoye, and Oba Saheed Olubiyi, the Onidogo of Idogo-Yewa, also graced the occasion, lending their support to this pivotal initiative. Other eminent personalities present included the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, and esteemed representatives from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), all of whom expressed their admiration for the Jama’at’s commitment to Nigeria’s educational advancement. The Masroor International Technical College is set to offer highly relevant technical programs such as Electrical Installation, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Plumbing and Pipe Fitting, Computer Hardware Maintenance and Repairs, Software Engineering and Web Development, and various building skills, including Bricklaying, Concrete Work, Masonry, and Tiling. These courses were carefully selected to address current industry needs, thereby equipping students with essential skills to enhance their employability and foster self-sufficiency. Guests at the commissioning lauded the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at for establishing this institution, acknowledging the critical role it will play in reducing unemployment and preparing graduates for careers in the ever-evolving technical and industrial sectors. By promoting skill acquisition and hands-on experience, the college provides a viable path to self-reliance, enabling graduates to contribute meaningfully to society and the economy. The occasion also highlighted the pressing need for more government support in establishing similar technical institutions nationwide. Such expansion, attendees emphasized, would empower Nigeria’s youth with practical skills, reducing the unemployment rate, fostering economic independence, and encouraging an entrepreneurial spirit. I received the head of the International Association of Ahmadi Architects and Engineers (IAAAE), Arc. Akram Ahmed and his team on a courtesy visit. The body has its membership drawn from professionals in the fields of Architecture and Engineering from all Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaats across the world. The delegation briefed me on their latest project, Masroor International Technical College (MITC), Ilaro, which will be formally commissioned soon. The Institute which is open to male and female students focuses on skills acquisition for training and manpower development in the areas of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Building (Masonry), Plumbing, Computer Maintenance and Repairs, Software Development and Website Design and Electrical Installations. I hope our youth and artisans take advantage of the additional opportunity for upskilling and certification.

On Monday, October 28, 2024, the respected Amir Sahib of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at Nigeria, Alh. (Barr) Alatoye Folorunso Abdul Azeez sahib paid a goodwill visit to Sheik Dr. Abbas Zakariyyah in Ibadan, accompanied by a distinguished entourage of national and local leaders of the Jama’at. The entourage included Sadr Majlis Ansarullah, former Amir Professor Mashhud Adenrele Fashola, Naib Sadr Awwal Alhaji M.O. Raheem, Assistant General Secretary Akinreti Nurudeen, Monatan Circuit President Brother Okunlola, Maulvi Waseem Nadeem Ahmad, Maulvi Ojo Shamsudeen, and Ustaz Aliyy Akewugberu, among others. The purpose of the visit focused on two main objectives. Firstly, Amir Sahib extended a formal invitation to Sheik Dr. Abbas Zakariyyah for the upcoming 70th Jalsa Salana (Platinum Annual Convention) of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at. Secondly, the discussion centered around fostering greater unity and respect within the Muslim community, particularly concerning the need to curb the spread of negative discourse on social media among Islamic scholars in the Southwestern region. During the visit, Amir Sahib emphasized the importance of respecting the diverse belief systems within the Islamic community and urged that efforts be made to harmonize and unify the Muslim Ummah, transcending sectarian divisions to focus on shared faith in God Almighty. In response, Sheik Dr. Abbas Zakariyyah expressed appreciation for the visit and recognized the longstanding relationship and gestures of goodwill extended to him by the Ahmadiyya Community. He acknowledged that he too had faced personal attacks on social media and noted that the issue of online abuse among Islamic scholars has become a concerning trend, especially in the Southwestern region. However, he was encouraged by the progress made through the efforts of an ad-hoc committee led by Alhaji Sheikh Muyideen Ajani Bello, aimed at censoring divisive online preaching, and promoting unity. Sheik Dr. Abbas warmly accepted the invitation to attend the Jalsa Salana, highlighting that he has consistently supported and participated in Ahmadiyya Community activities. He further conveyed his gratitude for the continuous goodwill shown by the former Amir and the Ahmadiyya leadership, remarking on the value of their relationship. As a gesture of appreciation, he was presented with literature from the Jama’at to reinforce the bond of friendship and shared understanding. The visit marked an uplifting and constructive step toward fostering unity, mutual respect, and peaceful dialogue within the Muslim community in Nigeria, with Sheik Dr. Abbas Zakariyyah affirming his commitment to these principles.

Dada before relocating to the North, where he joined the Ansarudeen Society in the absence of a Jama’at presence. Sheik Muyideen Bello highlighted the fundamental purpose of existence as serving Allah alone, reminding us to prioritize spiritual goals over worldly affairs. He commended the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community’s efforts in Holy Quran memorization, teachings, and peace-promoting preachings, describing them as worthy of respect and emulation. Sheik Bello reiterated that all Muslim organizations should embody peaceful coexistence and respectful discourse toward other sects. The Sheik expressed support for the newly established committee in the Southwest, led by himself, tasked with addressing the issue of divisive behavior among Islamic scholars on social media. The committee registered and recognized by the Federal Government, has been empowered to curb this problem, including taking strict actions against those found in violation. He optimistically noted that, by Allah’s grace, social media abuses within the Muslim community would soon be a matter of the past. As a highlight of the visit, Sheik Muyideen Bello accepted Amir Sahib’s invitation to attend the Jalsa Salana on Saturday, December 21, 2024, reaffirming his enduring support for the values of the Ahmadiyya Community. The visit underscored the shared commitment between both leaders to promote unity and brotherhood within the Nigerian Muslim community, marking another positive step toward fostering a spirit of mutual respect, harmony, and devotion.

Alh. (Barr) AbdulAzeez Alatoye Discusses Majlis Ansarullah Ijtema on NTA As the 48th Majlis Ansarullah Ijtema commenced today, Alh. (Barr) AbdulAzeez Alatoye, Amir of Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at of Nigeria, was featured on Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), FCT. He highlighted the significance of the conference, which began on Friday, 23rd August. Alh. Alatoye outlined the pre-conference activities, including a two-day medical outreach in Kamonrajigi, a visit to Abuja Children Home, and courtesy visits to esteemed leaders. These activities reflect the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community’s dedication to humanitarian service and the teachings of Islam, emphasizing charity and community support.
