Serve Faith with Your Pen, Amir AMJN Tells Muslim Writers

In a stirring address that blended spiritual insight with practical direction, the Amir (National Head) of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at of Nigeria, Alhaji (Barr.) Alatoye Folorunso Azeez, has charged members of the Majlis Ansar Sultanul Qalam (MASQ), also known as Muslim Writers’ Guild of Nigeria, to elevate their writing craft as a means of serving faith, enlightening society, and upholding the noble legacy of the Promised Messiah (as). The Amir gave the charge during the MASQ Writing Workshop and Annual Conference 2025, held at the Conference Hall of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at of Nigeria Headquarters, Ojokoro, Lagos, from 25th to 26th October 2025. The two-day intellectual gathering featured technical sessions on article writing, poetry, advocacy writing, and digital research tools, as well as a keynote conference themed “Writing Hope in an Era of Fear — The Pen as a Beacon of Light.” Amir Sahib emphasized that writing is not a casual endeavor but a refined skill that must be consciously nurtured. “Writing is a skill; you don’t just pick a pen,” he said, urging members to master the full cycle of communication which are listening, speaking, reading, and writing — in order to express divine truths with clarity and purpose. He recalled that the Promised Messiah (as) was endowed with excellence in all four dimensions of communication, and was divinely titled “Sultanul Qalam” (King of the Pen), a title that inspired the establishment of MASQ as the writing guild of the Jama’at. “This association must keep that spirit alive,” Amir Sahib stressed. Underscoring the importance of intellectual development, he called for renewed attention to translation work and the production of high-standard Islamic literature. “We have to translate a lot of books into local languages,” he mentioned. “Previous works were done, but we now need standard versions of those pamphlets. We need standard authors whose writings are refined and authoritative.” Amir Sahib further encouraged members to aim for depth and breadth in their writing, drawing inspiration from the scholarly approach of academics. “When academics write, they don’t write on only one aspect of a subject. This should also be our aim,” he mentioned. Highlighting the broader mission of writing in Islam, Barr. Alatoye reminded participants that Ahmadi writers are not fictional authors but conveyors of divine truth. “We are not fictional writers; we are explaining religion. Write for a wider audience,” he emphasized, adding that such writing attracts continuous spiritual reward for guiding others. He also reiterated MASQ’s crucial role as the literary arm of the Jama’at, describing it as complementary to the mission of Muslim Television Ahmadiyya (MTA). “MASQ is like MTA; take it seriously like that. The prophecy ‘I shall cause thy message to reach the corners of the earth’ also refers to Sultanul Qalam. Both arms must work to compliment each other,” he said. Amir Sahib encouraged the expansion of the guild to include more Khuddam, Jama’at members, and even external participants, while emphasizing the need for financial and intellectual capacity to sustain its projects. “Funding is very important for all our projects,” he noted. “Jama’at members have the means; we should preach and pray that Allah grants people faith with their wealth.” In a motivational close, he advised members to ensure that their published works create impact, both spiritually and professionally. “Your articles should be impactful on society and on yourself. Published works should elevate your recognition as writers,” he declared, urging members to pursue advanced education. “Get your master’s, PhD, become professors. Raise your profile and reach the peak of your field — all in the service of the Jama’at.” Amir Sahib reaffirmed the divine gift bestowed upon the Promised Messiah (as) – the power of the pen, and enjoined participants to explore and multiply that gift in their lives. “Allah has given the Promised Messiah this gift; we must explore it,” he added. The conference concluded with the presentation of awards to outstanding writers and guest contributors in recognition of their dedication and impact through the pen.

Amir Sahib of Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at Nigeria Visits Alhaji Sheik (Dr) Muyideen Ajani Bello in Ibadan

The respected Amir Sahib of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at Nigeria, Alh. (Barr) Alatoye Folorunso Abdul Azeez sahib accompanied by a delegation of esteemed leaders, paid a courtesy visit to Alhaji Sheik (Dr) Muyideen Ajani Bello in Ibadan on Monday, October 28, 2024. The delegation included prominent figures from the Jama’at: Sadr Majlis Ansarullah, former Amir Professor Mashhud Adenrele Fashola, Naib Sadr Awwal Alhaji M.O. Raheem, Assistant General Secretary Akinreti Nurudeen, Monatan Circuit President Brother Okunlola, and Ustaz Aliyy Akewugberu, among others. The Amir’s visit was aimed at two key objectives. Firstly, he formally invited Sheik Muyideen Bello to attend the forthcoming 70th Jalsa Salana, the Platinum Annual Convention of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at. Secondly, Amir Sahib addressed a shared concern within the Muslim community: the need to reduce and ultimately halt the spread of abusive exchanges, accusations, and divisive narratives about Islamic beliefs on social media. He expressed the Jama’at’s commitment to fostering unity, mutual respect, and harmony across all Islamic sects in the country. The Amir Sahib emphasized that, despite sectarian differences, Muslims are united as one Ummah in their worship of Almighty Allah. Alhaji Sheik Muyideen Bello warmly welcomed the delegation and expressed his deep appreciation for the visit. He fondly recalled his past involvement with the Ahmadiyya Community in Ibadan, where he was nurtured under the guidance of Alhaji H.T. Dada before relocating to the North, where he joined the Ansarudeen Society in the absence of a Jama’at presence. Sheik Muyideen Bello highlighted the fundamental purpose of existence as serving Allah alone, reminding us to prioritize spiritual goals over worldly affairs. He commended the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community’s efforts in Holy Quran memorization, teachings, and peace-promoting preachings, describing them as worthy of respect and emulation. Sheik Bello reiterated that all Muslim organizations should embody peaceful coexistence and respectful discourse toward other sects. The Sheik expressed support for the newly established committee in the Southwest, led by himself, tasked with addressing the issue of divisive behavior among Islamic scholars on social media. The committee registered and recognized by the Federal Government, has been empowered to curb this problem, including taking strict actions against those found in violation. He optimistically noted that, by Allah’s grace, social media abuses within the Muslim community would soon be a matter of the past. As a highlight of the visit, Sheik Muyideen Bello accepted Amir Sahib’s invitation to attend the Jalsa Salana on Saturday, December 21, 2024, reaffirming his enduring support for the values of the Ahmadiyya Community. The visit underscored the shared commitment between both leaders to promote unity and brotherhood within the Nigerian Muslim community, marking another positive step toward fostering a spirit of mutual respect, harmony, and devotion.

Articles of Faith

Belief in God’s Unity The following article was written by the 4th Khalifa of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Hazrat Mirza Tahir Ahmad, in his much-lauded book, An Elementary Study of Islam. *** This seems to be a rather simple and elementary concept. It should not be difficult for anybody to understand the oneness of God, and there the matter seems to rest. But in fact there is far more to this than meets the eye. When one examines the concept of Unity in depth, the entire world of religion seems to revolve around this pivotal point. This belief influences man’s life in all its aspects. It also implies the negation of all else but God. So belief in the oneness of God is not the end-all of belief, but all other beliefs spring from this fountain-head of eternal truth. This also delivers a message of liberation from all other yokes and releases man from all obligations except such as is born out of his submission to God. This article has been further elucidated from different angles, both in the Holy Qur’an and the traditions of the Holy Prophet(sa) of Islam. For instance, the declaration ‘La houl wala quat illa Billah’ (There is no all-encompassing power except Allah) opens up new windows for a deeper and wider understanding of Unity. It negates all fears other than the fear of God. The second part of the same brings to the focus of attention another very important aspect of Unity, i.e. that the power to achieve good is solely dependent on God and that He is Master of all sources of strength and energy. Hence while the first part relates to the negative aspects of power, the second part relates to the positive. In application to human actions, intentions and motivations etc., these two forces are all-encompassing. Man’s intentions and his subsequent actions are always guided and controlled either by fear or hope and there is no exception to this rule. Those who do good deeds do so out of fear and hope, and those who indulge in vices are motivated by the same. The fears of non-believers belong to the negative ungodly category, and they shape their lives in accordance with these worldly fears. Sometimes they are afraid of earning the displeasure of monarchs and authorities, sometimes they are afraid of society in general or of despots and bullies. Again, sometimes they act evilly out of a fear of poverty and loss etc. So, in a world full of vices, a large part of human actions can be explained with reference to these fears. The belief in Unity dispels these fears altogether and brings to one’s mind the importance of the fear of God, which means that one must not be afraid of the displeasure of the ungodly, but should always endeavour to avoid displeasing God and shape one’s life according to that fear alone. In the positive sense, the same applies to all human motivations and consequent actions. Man always lives by some motive to please someone, himself being no exception. In fact, more often than not, he works to please himself even at the cost of those who are otherwise dear to him. A more exaggerated form of this attitude renders man a worshipper of his own ego. To achieve his purpose, man has to please those on whom his pleasures depend. As such, again he has to constantly strive to win the favours of monarchs, authorities etc. What we are describing is the worst form of slavery. The hopes and fears of a slave are completely dependent on the whims, pleasures and displeasures of his master. But a godless man has not one master alone. Every other human being in relation to his personal interests can play as God to him. If you analyse the ultimate cause of social, moral or political evils, it is such human worship which destroys the peace of man’s mind, and society as a whole begins to deteriorate endlessly. From this point of view, when you cast another glance at the fundamental declaration, that ‘there is no God but Allah, the One and Only’, all these fears and hopes relating to objects other than God are dispelled, as if by the waving of a magic wand. In other words, by choosing one master alone you are liberated from slavery to all others. To be a slave of such others as are themselves slaves to numberless gods is a poor bargain indeed! But that is not all. The gods that such people worship are many a time products of their own imagination, which can do them neither good nor harm. Most men, on the other hand, worship nothing but mortals like themselves, their own egos being supreme among them all. Hence each of them bows to numberless egotistic gods, their interests being at clash with each other, creating a situation which is the ultimate of chaos. The Islamic concept of Unity also inculcates in man the realisation of the oneness of the human species, and does away with all such barriers as divide man into racial, ethnic and colour denominations. This gives birth to the universal concept of equality in Islam, which is its distinctive feature. Hence from the vantage point of God, all human beings, wherever and in whichever age they were born, stand equal in His sight. As will be demonstrated shortly, it is this fundamental which gives rise to all other fundamental beliefs and doctrines in Islam. As briefly mentioned before, Islam’s doctrine of Unity is absolute and unsplittable; it has no room for adding to the Godhead in any form. He has neither a father nor a mother, nor has He a spouse. For Him to give birth to sons and daughters is inconceivable. THE HAJJ, A GREAT SYMBOL OF HUMANITY’S UNITY IN WORSHIPPING THE UNITY OF GOD Another important aspect of Unity of God as presented by the Qur’an relates to absolute harmony in His creation. It is this harmony concept which
