With the special grace of Almighty Allah, a newly constructed Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat of Nigeria Central Mosque, Masjid Baitul Qadeer, was officially inaugurated on Sunday, 25 January 2025, at Povita Town, Badagry, Lagos State, by the Amir (National Head) of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at of Nigeria.
The mosque, donated by Alhaji Abbas Owolabi, the President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, also has a two-bedroom apartment added to serve as the Mission House for the Resident Missionary.
In his address at the ceremony, the Amir congratulated the donor on this noble and selfless initiative, describing it as an act with everlasting rewards from Almighty Allah. He encouraged other well-meaning and capable members of the community to emulate such acts of charity in the cause of Islam.
Barrister Alatoye further admonished worshippers to strictly observe the rules and regulations governing the use of mosques, emphasizing their sanctity as sacred places of worship.
“We thank Almighty Allah for the family of Alhaji Abbas Owolabi for successfully completing the construction of this mosque and mission house. Building and donating a mosque is Sadaqatul Jariyah, a form of continuous charity whose rewards are endless in this life and in the hereafter. This is why both men and women should strive towards such acts before departing this world,” the Amir stated.
He further reminded worshippers of proper conduct within the mosque:
“Those who worship in the mosque must strictly adhere to the guidelines governing its use. There should be no murmuring or unnecessary discussions. Mosques are meant for the remembrance of Allah and for Ta’leem (educational) activities. There must be no disagreement or fighting within the mosque, as it is a sacred place and not an environment for quarrels,” he added.
The Chief Imam of the Povita community, Alhaji Taofeeq Yusuf, expressed his joy over the addition of another mosque to the area and described the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community as peace-loving and exemplary neighbours.
In his remarks, the donor, Alhaji Abbas Owolabi, expressed profound gratitude to all guests and well-wishers for honouring the mosque inauguration and humbly requested continued prayers for himself and his family.
It would be recalled that the family of Alhaji Abbas Owolabi had earlier built and donated a mosque and mission house at Apata, Ibadan, some years ago.
