The Amir (National Head) of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at of Nigeria, Alhaji (Barr.) Alatoye Folorunso Azeez, on Saturday, 17 January 2026, inaugurated a newly constructed mosque and a three-bedroom mission house apartment at Ikire, Osun State.
The mosque, with a seating capacity of over 300 worshippers, was named Masjid Baitul Mujeeb by the Supreme Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad (may Allah be his Helper).
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Alhaji Alatoye described the mosque as the first to be inaugurated by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at in the year 2026, adding that several others would be inaugurated across the country before the end of the year, by the grace of Allah. He urged worshippers to uphold the sanctity of the mosque by devoting it strictly to acts of worship and spiritual development, including the five daily prayers, Qur’anic teachings, Ta‘leem classes, and other blessed activities that should define the life of the mosque.
“This is the first mosque the Jama’at is commissioning in the year 2026, and several others will follow before the year runs out, by the grace of Allah. Mosques must always be treated as sacred places. Only good and righteous deeds should be carried out within them, free from mundane affairs. We must all uphold the sanctity of the mosque,” he stated.
The Amir further emphasized the core values of Islam, calling on Muslims to embody kindness, humility, and respect in their dealings with others.
“As Muslims, we must worship Allah alone, be kind to humanity, and remain humble and respectful at all times. We must continue to demonstrate that Islam is not a religion of violence or banditry, and that those who engage in such acts do so purely for selfish interests,” he added.
In their separate remarks, religious leaders present at the occasion commended the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at for its pioneering role in advancing Islam alongside socio-economic and humanitarian development in Nigeria. In addition to the eulogies of the respected Islamic leaders was a special message of the Ahmadiyya Movement Imam who noted that “some individuals who witnessed the period of division in early days of Ahmadiyya in Nigeria including himself, were aware of the truth at the time but were unable to prevent the split due to limitations imposed by leaders who misled them”. He nonetheless pledged his “continued participation in Jama’at programmes whenever invited”.
Dignitaries at the mosque inauguration included the Missionary-in-Charge, AMJN, Maulana Adnan Tahir; former Amir, AMJN, Professor Mashhud Adenrele Fashola; the General Secretary, AMJN, Alhaji Ayelagbe Abdul Jabar; and the Vice-Chancellor, Minaret University, Ikirun, Professor AbdurRahman Abdullah.
Others are: Grand Chief Imam Ikire land Alh Muslim Oladiran; Grand Chief Imam Apomu Land Alh. Muibudeen Olawale Ishola; Grand Chief Imam Ikoyi Land Alh Zakariyyah Ajisekola; and Pastor M.A Ogundiran of CAC Mountain of Joy Ikoyi Ile, Osun State.
